Dr. Joseph Liu, DMD, AFAAID
Dr. Liu believes every patient deserves honest answers and compassionate care. He takes time to listen, explain options clearly, and recommend treatment based on each person’s needs and goals.
Dr. Liu graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2012. As a senior dental student, he received the Excellence in Implantology Senior Award from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), an international organization that supports implant dentistry through education, research, and collaboration. He then completed a General Practice Residency at Allegheny General Hospital, where he received the Excellence in Oral Surgery Award at the end of the program.
He has completed more than 500 hours of continuing education focused on implant dentistry and is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AFAAID). This credential recognizes advanced education and clinical experience in implant care.
Dr. Liu has extensive training in incorporating Zero Bone Loss Concepts into implant treatment by carefully considering implant position, the surrounding gum tissue, and the design of the final restoration. Planning these details together aims to support the bone and soft tissues around the implant over time, creating long lasting and beautiful restorations. This tissue-focused approach is a defining part of implant care at Luminous Smiles.

Saving Your Natural Teeth
Our first priority is to keep your natural teeth when possible. We offer routine tooth-colored composite fillings. When necessary, we also offer root canal treatment using advanced equipment. When a tooth needs added protection, we can restore it with an esthetic, metal-free ceramic crown. We also offer multiple tooth bridges and full-mouth reconstruction with crowns when appropriate.

Full-Arch Implant Care, Start to Finish
For patients missing all teeth in an arch, implants can help restore chewing function and smile esthetics. They can retain a removable “snap in” denture (overdenture) or support a permanent screw retained bridge (All-on-X implant prosthetic). We design and fabricate custom temporary teeth so you can smile and function on the day of surgery. Dr. Liu brings expertise in both implant surgery and prosthetics and personally provides every phase of your implant treatment.

Designed Here, Made for You
Dr. Liu works directly with our lab technician. Together, they use SprintRay 3D printers and dental milling machines to make custom esthetic dentures, surgical guides, night guards, and other restorations tailored to each patient.
Conventional & Implant Dentures
Our lab technician designs and fabricates temporary and permanent conventional dentures in close collaboration with Dr. Liu. He also designs and finishes custom implant-retained overdentures in our lab, tailoring each prosthesis for fit and appearance.
Retainers & night guards. Our lab technician also fabricates custom retainers to help maintain alignment after treatment and night guards to help protect teeth from grinding.
Surgical Implant Guides & Customized Implant Components
We plan implant position digitally, then design and fabricate surgical guides in the lab to support that plan. We can also create custom socket-sealing abutments and temporary crowns as part of treatment.

We participate with select plans from Aetna, UPMC, Community Life, and United Concordia. The specific plans are listed here; please call us to confirm your coverage before your visit.
If your plan is not listed, you may still be able to use out-of-network benefits.
Please understand that treatment cannot be provided based on the assumption that your insurance company will cover or pay for services. Luminous Smiles Dental Studio will continue to submit eligible insurance claims as a courtesy to our patients; however, all insurance payments will be issued directly to the insurance subscriber. Patients are responsible for payment to our office at the time services are rendered.
